Saturday 16 July The King of Colombian Salsa WILSON SAOKO live in Adelaide! In honour of Colombian Independance Day, Salsa superstar direct from Colombia Wilson Saoko is set to perform at the Gov Saturday July 16 accompanied by Australia's premier Salsa band SALCEDO as part of his 2011 Australian tour! Wilson "Saoko" Manyoma is one of Colombia's most celebrated and illustrious artists. Musicians, vocalist, producer and composer, Saoko has had a long and successful career both as a solo artist and as part of many Salsa bands such as Fruko y sus Tesos, The Latin Brothers, La Sonora Dinamita and Alfredo de la Fe to name a few. Saoko was discovered in 1965 in his hometown, Cali, Colombia. From 1966 to 1967, he was lead singer and frontman for La Sonora Juventud and Los Hermanos Hospinos. In 1973, Saoko was signed up as an exclusive artist for Discos Fuentes where he records his first single as a solo artist and composer 'Tu Sufriras' and 'Mosaico Santero'. In 1975, Saoko records the legendary song 'El Preso' which quickly became the biggest hit in Colombia's recording history and which has since become one of the most well-known and widely played Salsa songs in the world. It is through 'El Preso' that Saoko is immortalised. In 2002 and countless hits later, Saoko is recognised by 'El Tiempo' Colombian newspaper as "the best Salsa vocalist in Colombia in the last 30 years".
