This is from the BTQ7 weekly news segment, Flashback, that deals with Queensland History. From 1968 to 1987, Joh Bjelke-Petersen ruled over a corrupt government and police force. As Qld has a unicameral system, there is no parliamentary process to deal with government excesses. Thus corruption was allowed to run rampant for 2 decades, ruining the lives of many people. Many of these people had files kept on them by the Police Special Branch, for the crimes in the eyes of the government, of being members of trade unions, or even just writing a letter to the newspaper criticizing the government.
